Capital Improvement Project

A Busy Summer
Inside Our Buildings

Work is underway in every Roy-Hart building. Crews have the high school, middle school, and elementary school largely to themselves through August, and access is very limited while that work is happening. Here is what is going on, and how to reach us in the meantime.

Building Access Is Extremely Limited

Our buildings are active construction sites this summer. For everyone's safety, and because contractors need clear working space, please plan around the following:

  • Do not stop by without an appointment. Entrances that are normally open may be sealed off, and there may be no one at the door to let you in.
  • Call or email ahead. If you need something from a building — records, a locker cleanout, dropping off paperwork — contact the office first and we will arrange a time that works.
  • Fenced and taped areas are off limits to everyone, including staff, at all times. That includes staging areas, dumpsters, and equipment parked on site.
  • Parking lots and walkways may be rerouted with little notice as work shifts from one area to the next. Follow posted signage and cones.
  • Grounds and playgrounds are closed where construction is active. Please keep children off school property in those areas, including evenings and weekends.
  • Staff should not enter work zones to retrieve classroom materials. Contact your building administrator to coordinate.

We know this is inconvenient, and we appreciate your patience. Limiting access now is what lets crews move quickly and have our buildings ready for students.

Progress Update

The newest photos are first, with earlier stages of the same work further along in the set. We add to this as crews move from one phase to the next, so check back.

What's Happening, Building by Building

Work is running in all three buildings at once, which is why access is so restricted. Here is the short version of what crews are tackling.

High School

Framing, drywall & finishes underway

  • Abatement and demolition complete along the first floor corridor
  • Framing underway on the third floor of the 1911 building
  • Restroom renovations at drywall, tile, and fixture stages
  • Lower level behind the main office being rebuilt

Middle School

Site work in progress

  • Playground area improvements
  • Surrounding grounds and access work
  • Playground closed to the public until work is complete

Elementary School

Auditorium & restroom work underway

  • Auditorium renovation continuing after demolition
  • New tile going in across the A-Wing and D-Wing restrooms
  • Auditorium unavailable for any use this summer

Common Questions

Can I come in to pick something up from a classroom or locker?

Not without arranging it first. Call or email the building office and we will set a time when it is safe to walk you in. Showing up unannounced means you will likely find a locked door.

Where are summer programs and athletics meeting?

Several programs have been relocated for the summer. Check the schedule your program coordinator sent home, or contact the district office if you are not sure where to report.

Is it safe for kids to be on school grounds after hours?

No. Active work areas are fenced and posted, and heavy equipment stays on site overnight and through weekends. Please keep children off school property in those areas until the fencing comes down.

How is the project being paid for?

The project is funded through the voter-approved capital improvement plan, with state building aid covering a substantial share of the cost. Full project and funding details are available from the district office.

Who do I contact with a question that is not answered here?

Start with your child's building office. For questions about the project itself — scope, schedule, or funding — contact the district office using the information below.

Reach Us This Summer

Offices are staffed, but visits are by appointment. Email is the fastest way to get an answer while the buildings are torn up.
